Spain Digital Nomad Visa
The Spanish Digital Nomad Visa is ideal for foreigners who wish to live in Spain as residents while working remotely for an employer or company based outside of Spain. This visa also accommodates self-employed individuals who work independently using telecommunication systems and digital tools.
Self-employed applicants are permitted to work for Spanish companies as well, provided that such work accounts for no more than 20% of their overall professional activity.
To qualify, applicants must either hold an undergraduate or postgraduate degree from a recognized university, college, or business school or possess at least three years of professional experience in their field.
The visa extends to certain family members, including:
- A spouse or unmarried partner.
- Dependent children and dependent relatives in the ascending line who are part of the applicant’s family unit.

Required Documents For Workers & Their Family Members
To apply for the Spanish Digital Nomad Visa, you must prepare and submit the following documentation:
- Visa Application Form
- Complete and sign the application form. If submitted by a representative, they must also sign the form.
- Photograph
- A recent, passport-sized color photograph taken against a light background. The image must clearly show the applicant’s face without dark glasses or face-covering garments.
- Valid Passport
- Submit the original passport and a photocopy of the biometric data pages. The passport must:
- Be valid for at least one year.
- Contain at least two blank pages.
- Not have been issued more than 10 years ago.
- For non-British nationals in the UK, a valid residence permit is also required.

- Criminal Record Certificate
- Applicants of legal age must submit:
- An original criminal record certificate and a copy, issued by the applicant’s country (or countries) of residence over the past two years.
- A sworn declaration confirming no criminal records in the last five years.
- The certificate must be less than six months old unless stated otherwise. For UK applicants, an ACRO Certificate is required.
- Applicants of legal age must submit:
- Proof of Residence in the Consular District
- Submit evidence of your legal residence within the consular district.

- The visa fee must be paid in the local currency when submitting the application. Fees are subject to changes due to currency fluctuations.

- Submit the original and a copy of a public or private health insurance policy authorized in Spain.

Specific Requirements For International Workers
To meet the requirements for the Spanish Digital Nomad Visa, applicants must provide the following additional documents and certifications:
1. Certification of Employment for at least 3 months prior to application
For Employees:
A certificate from the employer confirming: The length of the employment contract.
Explicit consent to work remotely from Spain.
The salary.
For Self-Employed Individuals:
A certificate detailing: The duration of the contractual agreement(s).
The terms and conditions permitting remote work from Spain.
2. Company Registration Certification
A certificate issued by the Companies House or equivalent government entity confirming: The company’s date of incorporation.
The nature of its business activities.
3. Social Security Obligations (UK Registrants)
Responsible Declaration:
If registered under British National Social Security, the company (for employees) or the applicant (if self-employed) must submit a declaration confirming compliance with UK social security obligations before commencing work.
A1 Form from HMRC:
For employees: Certificate CA3822, verifying UK National Insurance contributions while working temporarily abroad.
For self-employed individuals: Certificate CA3837, confirming UK National Insurance contributions while self-employed abroad temporarily.
4. Social Security Obligations (Spanish Registrants)
If registered with the Spanish National Social Security System, provide:
A certificate confirming registration for both the company and the applicant (if employed).
If self-employed, a certificate of registration with RETA (Spanish Social Security system for self-employed workers).
A responsible declaration from the employer (or applicant if self-employed), confirming compliance with Spanish social security obligations.
If still registered with UK Social Security, this must be explicitly stated in the declaration.
5. Proof of Financial Means
Applicants must demonstrate financial resources of at least 200% of the monthly Spanish national minimum wage.
For family members:
First family member: an additional 75% of the minimum wage.
Each subsequent member: an additional 25% of the minimum wage.
Acceptable forms of proof include:
Employment contracts.
Bank statements.
Pay slips.
6. Educational or Professional Certification
Submit a copy of a university degree or a professional certificate demonstrating at least 3 years of experience in the relevant field of activity.
Employment history issued by the UK government is also accepted as proof of experience.
Requirements For Family Members
To verify a family relationship with the worker, the following documents are required:
- For spouses or partners: Birth or marriage certificates from the civil registry, a certificate of registration as an unmarried couple, or any other document confirming an unregistered partnership. Foreign documents must be either legalized or apostilled and, if needed, accompanied by an official Spanish translation.
- For adult children: Proof of financial dependency and civil status. These documents must also be legalized or apostilled and include an official Spanish translation when necessary.
- For parents or other ascendants: Evidence demonstrating they are under the care of the investor. As with other cases, foreign documents require legalization or an apostille, along with an official Spanish translation if applicable.

Procedure
Who Can Apply
Visa applications must be submitted:
In Person: By the applicant themselves.
For Minors: By one of their parents.
Through a Representative: Representatives must present a copy of their ID or passport and a power of attorney or an official document proving representation. Original documents must be shown during submission. Foreign documents must be legalized or apostilled and, if required, accompanied by an official Spanish translation.

Application Proof and Process
Proof of Receipt: Applicants will receive a receipt with a tracking code to monitor their application status.
Additional Requirements: The Consulate may request missing documents, additional information, or a personal interview.
Processing Time
The decision is typically made within 10 days, but this may extend if further documentation or an interview is needed.
Visa Collection
Visas must be collected in person or by an authorized representative within 1 month of the notification date.

Visa Refusal and Appeals
Notification: All refusals are provided in writing.
Reconsideration Appeal: Applicants can appeal to the Consular Office within 1 month of notification via Royal Mail or a courier service.
Legal Appeal: Alternatively, a legal appeal can be filed with the High Court of Justice in Madrid within 2 months of the refusal or dismissal of the reconsideration appeal.
Visa Validity
The visa is valid for up to 1 year or for the same period as the granted work and residency authorization.
A Residence Permit Card is not mandatory for legal residency, but applicants may voluntarily apply for one at the nearest Oficina de Extranjería or Comisaría de Policía in Spain.
